Artell: "Some Of The Performances In The Second Half Were Not Good Enough"

4 October 2021

Boss says important to go through individual errors to move forward as a collective.

David Artell says that the Crewe Alexandra coaching staff will continue to work with the players to improve them and make them better players.

Artell and his staff are rebuilding a new team after the likes of Harry Pickering, Charlie Kirk, Owen Dale, Ryan Wintle and Omar Beckles all departed the club in the summer. Tom Lowery has not featured in League One either due to his on-going contract dispute.

Artell told the club’s official website: “It is important to go through the video and highlight both the positives and the negatives with them. That is part of the job and we go through what we did well and not so well as a team and then sometimes individually.

“There were things in that second half that were not good and there were some performances that were not good enough either. We have gone through it with them and told them in a helpful and constructive way.

The boss added: “It is my job and that of my coaches to make them better players and if they need telling then they are told. There is no hiding from that fact but it is my job to be helpful. We go through things with them in detail and get their feedback too and hopefully it sticks, so they learn from those mistakes and take it forward.“
