Boss looking for improved display against high-flying Sunderland.
David Artell has told the club’s official website that his Crewe Alexandra side have to perform to their own standard rather than be judged against the size of the club we face. Crewe host Sunderland this evening and the Alex boss says that he is looking for a vast improvement in his team’s performance following the 3-0 loss at Fleetwood at the weekend.
Artell has already spoken on record about how the performance was well below the standard expected and he is seeking more consistency in games. Crewe had gone into the Fleetwood game on a run of just one defeat in eight games.
Next up is the Black Cats this evening and Artell wants his players to set their own standards once again. He told us: “I am hoping to see a vast improvement. We all are as a group and I am sure the supporters are as well.
“We have to set our own standard and not be judged on the calibre of opposition we are facing or the size of the club. We can be competitive in this division. We were last season and have been against some of the top teams already this season.
“We have to get back to the standard we showed for the last 20 minutes at Rotherham or for 30 plus minutes against Plymouth. We have to get back to that and do it for longer.
“Sunderland are a big club and they shouldn’t be in League One and all that but they are and they are our next opponent and our next opportunity to get some points on the board and that is how we are looking at it.”
