"Richards Has Been Fine And The Competition Between The Two Of Them Has Been Good"

25 November 2021

Artell says Richards deserves the shirt at the moment with Jaaskelainen always pushing for a return to first-team action.

David Artell has stressed that goalkeeper Dave Richards has been ‘magnificent’ since his return to first-team action and that if he felt he should have done better with any of the goals against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday evening then there will be no-one more disappointed than him.

Richards regained his place ahead of our Finland Youth International, Will Jaaskelainen, for our home game against Doncaster Rovers last month and the battle between the two friends continues.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I thought the one from the corner came at him extremely quickly and that made it difficult for him. The second one, it is perhaps not the save but more the positioning that allowed the lad to cross it back across the six yard box.

“Trig (Richards) has been magnificent since he came back in and there is no way I am knocking him for Tuesday night. He was fine and if he thinks he can do better with any of the goals then there will be no-one more disappointed about it than him.”
