Artell: "We Have To Match Gills Work Ethic And Then Be Better On The Ball"

19 November 2021

David Artell believes that if his Crewe Alexandra side can match Gillingham’s work ethic then we have a great chance of recording only our second league win of the season.

The Railwaymen will be targeting three home points in their quest to move closer to the sides above us at the bottom of the table.

Gillingham are currently eight points clear of Crewe and will be aiming to put more daylight between themselves and the bottom four.

Although Gillingham have their own troubles with form and injuries, Artell expects another tough encounter against Steve Evans’ side.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture, the Crewe boss told us: “It will be another tough game. I know that Steve (Evans) has some injury problems of his own but whatever team he puts out they will give everything they have got. He demands that and we will have to match that work ethic.

“If we do and we can be better in possession than we were last week then we have a great chance of getting the result we need. If we don’t then it could be another long afternoon.

“It is all set-up for a tasty encounter and I hope the fans come out and get behind the players. I said recently that if they are going to shout at anyone then direct it at me and not the players.

“If they can get behind them then it will really help them.

“Obviously, you learn a lot more about your players in adversity. You see the best and very worst in people and I am always learning.”
