On-loan winger J’Neil Bennett missed Friday night’s 2-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers after suffering a slight hamstring injury in the Papa John’s Trophy win over Wolves Under-23. The on-loan Tottenham youngster helped inspire a 3-0 win over the young Wolves side and he was rather unfortunate not to have got on the scoresheet himself.
He was denied a goal by the experienced John Ruddy on a couple of occasions but Bennett’s all-round performance was much more like him.
It was a blow to lose the skilful 19-year-old for the trip to Bolton but it is hoped that he could return this weekend and make himself available for selection with Steve Evans’ Gillingham side visiting the Mornflake Stadium.
Crewe will still be without Kayne Ramsay, Travis Johnson and Callum Ainley for the visit of the Gills. Donervon Daniels is progressing well from his knee injury but Saturday may come a little too soon for the centre-half.
