Artell: "We Got A Lot Of What We Wanted Out Wolves Win"

10 November 2021

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell was really pleased to be able to take some real positives from our comfortable 3-0 win over James Collins’ Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s side last night.

The Alex had gone six matches without a win in all competitions and although already through, Artell selected a nice blend of experience and youth to make sure we got that win, but also a high quality performance.

Following the 3-0 win over Wolves, Artell told the club’s official website: “We got a lot of what we wanted out of the game. We scored three goals, we had two different goalscorers, a clean-sheet, four debuts and a number of good performances.

“We had far more control of the game, especially in the first half and if we had gone in 5,6 up, I don’t think that would have flattered us.

“In the second half when you are two, three goals up, you can get content to keep them at arms -length a bit and that is how it panned out, but if we can nick pick at 3-0 then I would certainly take that every week.

“The most important thing was that we won the game and there were some really good performances to go with it.

“The belief was there. You could see after five minutes that some of the players believed that we were going to win the game. You could see it in them. It took others 20, 25 minutes to believe it but then the shackles were really off and you could tell but the way they acted and behaved.

“Maybe having the three debutants helped with that. They came into the game without that psychological baggage with them and they may have helped the older guys come along with that.”

He added: “It was important to make sure we won the game and now we have to make sure that it kick starts our season.”
