Artell: "The Players Are Short On Belief But A Result Tomorrow Could Change That"

1 November 2021

David Artell is pleased that we have a match coming up so soon after Saturday’s disappointing performance against MK Dons. Crewe ended up losing 4-1 to the Dons, conceding three goals after Christopher Long had levelled things up in the opening minutes of the second period. The result leaves the Alex bottom of League One with just that league one win so far in the new campaign.

The Alex now have a home game against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening to try and rectify the weekend result and restore some belief.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Sometimes when the games come thick and fast you could do with a few more days to coach, prep and recover, but I think we all want this game to come around quickly. We need some points on the board and we have another opportunity on Tuesday night to do that.

“We have to make sure that we restore that belief. We have good players here and they have to believe in themselves more. The only way that will change is by winning games of football again.

“I didn’t think there was much in the game on Saturday and we ended up losing it 4-1. I didn’t think it was a 4-1 game nor was I surprised that it ended up that way. We succumbed too easily and it’s in our own heads.

“It can work the other way, when confidence is high and the belief is there. We went 10 games unbeaten last year, so it is not insurmountable either. You have to shift that thinking first and the last 15, 20, minutes of that game on Saturday didn’t look like us at all and that has to change.”
