Artell: "Has To Be A Platform For Us"

22 November 2021

David Artell believes that if his Crewe Alexandra side can start replicating performances like we showed against Gillingham then we will have every chance of moving up the League One table.

The Crewe boss was pleased with his team’s all-round display in the 2-0 win over the Gills, hailing them as ‘magnificent’.

There were plenty of positives to take from what was only our second league win of the season and Artell hoping it is the first brick in a building block to take into the next 12 games.

He told us: “There were some real positives to take from the performance on Saturday. We passed the ball better and if we can do that like we did, then we can give anyone in this league a game.

“We had to keep reiterating to them that they are good players because they are. We reinforced that and the belief was there. They worked their socks off in training last week. We had double sessions to go through the work and they were really receptive to that.

“It is all about the players. Once they cross that white line, they are the ones who have to do it and they did on Saturday.

“Now we have to keep that going. It’s one swallow and all that but Saturday showed what we are capable of against a Gillingham side who will win games of football this season. They are a tough side and we had to dig in at times in that second half but we came through it and hopefully that can be the platform.

“We had a poor 15 games, so now we need to have a better 15 games to give ourselves a chance. We have 12 or so of them left in this section of games, so we need to start getting results. We know that. If we play like that every week then we have every chance of winning games and every chance of remaining in this league.”
