"Talk Is Cheap We Now Have To Back It Up With Performances"

2 November 2021

Boss believes players are good enough to turn things around after poor start to the new season.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell admits that the Alex dressing room has bound to have taken a knock confidence wise following four straight defeats in League One – but he firmly believes that there remains enough quality inside the group to turn results around.

Crewe entertain Doncaster Rovers this evening in need of three home points and Artell believes that once the mindset shifts, the results will start to come.

Ahead of Doncaster’s visit this evening, Artell told the club’s official website: “The desire is there from the players. They are desperate to do well and to get that win that could hopefully ignite our season.

“I don’t think anyone can question their desire. There is a possible lack of belief and their confidence has taken a knock but those things are in the head. They are states of mind and they have got to remember that they are good players.

“There will be a lot of factors behind why we haven’t achieved the results we have but I do think we have leaders. I have seen it and heard it. Yes, we could have more of them being more vocal and that could be another contributing factor but it certainly isn’t the only thing.

“People question leaders, leadership and being vocal when you are losing games but Perry (Ng) and Pixie were two of the quietest captains you will ever see but oversaw a really successful period.

“What I do know is that talk is cheap and we have to back it up with performances.”
