'Been Invaluable To Be Able To Pick Alex Neil's Brain'

8 November 2021

Gaffer tapped into his former team-mate's viewpoint after inviting him in to be a fresh pair of eyes.

David Artell says that the presence of the former Norwich City and Preston North End manager, Alex Neil, has given him an ‘extra pair of eyes’ around the place to hopefully allow us to add some improvements.

The 40-year-old Neil is a former team-mate of Artell and the pair go back a long way from their playing days and Artell says the exercise to want a fresh perspective on our working will only benefit his preparation and the way we conduct things.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I spoke to the chairman months ago about someone coming in to give us another set of eyes around the place and offer their opinion.

“I’ve played with Alex and known him for a long-time. He is someone I trust and I wanted a fresh look at things. He can ask us questions and wants to know why we do certain things that way or why we do that a particular way and he might say, well I do that way for this reason. It's been good.

“He is asking questions to the staff more than anything and it’s been good to have him here and to have him observe what we do. He has great experience and it will only help us.

He added: “It’s just bouncing ideas of each other and I am sure he is picking some things up well as well.  It works both ways and it has been invaluable to pick his brain over the last few days.”
