'Young Ashton Deserves All The Support In The World'

20 May 2021

Gaffer and staff get ready to embark on 35 mile massive task in aid of unbelievable youngster.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has joked that his target for Sunday’s marathon run and cycle in aid of young Ashton Hulme is to ‘not be in agony the following day!’

The Alex boss will be cycling the 35 mile route that will take in the three local clubs and he will be offering supplies to the runners’ which includes his assistant Kenny Lunt and other Academy staff.

Artell has already played and managed a couple of charity games in aid of young Ashton and now he is aiming to complete the marathon ride and run to raise more funds for such a remarkable young man.

Artell said of the remarkable challenge this weekend: “I would have no chance of running 35 miles, so I am cycling it and offering my support that way. I know my knees wouldn’t allow me to run that far and cycling 35 miles will be long enough!

“My target is just to make sure that I am not in any pain on the Monday! If I can do that the following day then that would do for me!

“It has been terrific, the support shown to Ashton. So many people have reached into their pockets and donated and he has received so many amazing messages of support and all the famous people doing videos for him. It has been amazing to see but that lad has been through so much and he deserves all the support in the world.

“He has suffered more pain than any of us will feel on Sunday and he isn’t out of the woods yet either. His spirit and attitude is inspirational and that is why the lads have all signed up for the run on Sunday. That shows the togetherness of the club when one of our own has been suffering.”

Crewe Alexandra FC and the Hulme family would like to thank all those people who have donated or send a message of support. The family are incredibly grateful.

If you would like to make a donation to the Academy and management staff as they embark on their 35 mile marathon this weekend please visit the JustGiving page.
