Good To Have Steve Back In The Dugout After Covid Battle

6 May 2021

Crewe boss David Artell says he is looking forward to hopefully seeing Steve Cotterill back in the technical area on Sunday. Cotterill has only recently returned from his own personal battle against Covid-19 to finish the season in charge of Shrewsbury Town again and Artell says that is great to have one of the most experienced managers in the EFL back in the game after one almighty scare.

Everyone at Crewe Alexandra hopes that Steve has a speedy and a full recovery in readiness for next season.

Ahead of our final game of the season on Sunday at midday, Artell told crewealex.net: “Rivalry goes to the side when something like this happens. Steve has had a real tough time of it by all accounts and it is good to see him back.

“He has been through the ringer and that is how Covid can affect you. All you want is someone to be fit and healthy and hopefully Steve will be there on Sunday to take Shrewsbury.

“He has done a great job at Shrewsbury and so have his staff in his absence, because they were on a real shaky ground at the start of the season. The chairman elected to make a change of manager at the time and he deserves the credit for that as well because he got Steve in and his experience certainly steadied the ship and moved them away from any danger.

“They have done a top job and we know it will be another tough game to end the season because it was a tight game when we played them at the start of the year.”
