Boss:"Omar Knows We Cannot Wait Forever"

No deadline set on Omar decision

David Artell says he hasn’t set a deadline on Omar Beckles deciding his future but the Crewe Alexandra manager says ‘he cannot afford to wait forever’ as he continues to rebuild his squad for next season.

Beckles, 29, agreed a one-year deal last summer after leaving Shrewsbury Town and the powerful centre-half went on to be a regular in Artell’s side, making 43 appearances and scoring his only goal in a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley back in February.

The Grenada International has been offered a new deal by the club but has yet to agree to an extension and Artell ended the season by leaving Beckles out of his starting XI with his future undecided.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Omar is in a bit quandary. I know he has enjoyed his time with us and we will give as much time as we can but he knows we cannot wait forever.

“We would like him to stay and he knows that but he is seeing where the land lies and I’m sure he has had some interest.

“I’ve not set a deadline as yet and I will speak to him shortly and see where we lie with him and take it from there. We will have to move forward and until I have spoken to him and his decision is made then that is where we are with Omar.”
