'Biggest Factor Is Money But Players Know They Can Improve By Moving To Crewe"

18 May 2021

David Artell admits that the most significant factor when it comes to signing players is money, but the Crewe Alexandra boss says that the offer of improving under the coaching at the club always provides us with opportunities to compete in the market.

The Alex boss has gone on record to state that he expects this closed season to be his busiest yet with an influx of new players arriving to bolster his squad for the 2021/22 campaign. The boss has spoken of as many as ten new arrivals coming to the Alexandra Stadium this summer.

Artell told crewealex.net: “The biggest factor when it comes to signing players is money and if anyone says otherwise then I would think they are lying. The agents and players have to try and get as much as they can and I understand that. In reality, it is like any other job.

“Thankfully, other factors have to come into it and at Crewe we offer the potential to improve and develop here. I don’t think there are many players who leave here without feeling they are a better all-round player.

“It might be the style of football and how we like to play the game the right way. It might be the chance to play in a preferred position or formation or that they get on with the manager or the coaches?

“I’m sure that our league position will play a part too. We have managed to finish in the top half of the table and 12th certainly looks a lot better than 21st. If that plays a part then great but I think it depends on the individual.”
