Artell: "Important To Manage Expectations Right"

Boss says it is important we learn to walk before we can run in League One

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that it remains important that we ‘learn to walk in League One before we can run’.

Artell is pleased with the progress being made on and off the pitch at the Football Club and he is excited by the challenge of building a squad capable of competing at the right end of the table, but he remains mindful of the task ahead and doesn’t want to be looking over our shoulder as we embark on a second season in the third tier.

The Crewe boss told Crewealex.net: “It is important that we learn to walk before we can run in League One.

“We will look to improve and I think we have improved each year I’ve been manager, so I expect that to be the case again. However, it is a tough league and it is important that we remain mindful of the fact that we don’t get dragged into a relegation scrap and have to look over our shoulder.

“Now, can we compete a play-off place and get promoted? We will certainly try but we have to keep working hard to keep progressing and make sure we are looking upwards and not over our shoulder.

“It is going to be challenging but once you are go on a run and are progressing you don’t want it to stop and that is why we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground and push hard again.”
