Alex Staff Prepare For 35-Mile Run For Ashton

19 May 2021

Please make a donation if you can ahead of the big run this Sunday.

There has been numerous fundraising events, charity football matches and auctions taking place in aid of young Ashton Hulme and the big one is yet to come! A number of Academy coaches and staff are planning to run an extraordinary 35 miles to raise even more money for such an amazing lad!

On Sunday, 23rd May, the runners will be taking in each of the three local EFL clubs and they will be supported by cycle outriders such as first-team manager David Artell in their quest to complete the 55K.

The Crewe Academy staff are aiming to raise a fantastic £20,000 for Ashton, who has sadly  been diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer, known as Osteosarcoma and you can make a donation by visiting their JustGiving page. The staff and the Hulme family would like to thank everyone who has made a donation already.

The runners and riders will be setting off at 8am on Sunday from the Alexandra Stadium and will visit Vale Park and the Bet365 Stadium on their demanding route.

They have all been training extremely hard over the last few months and most of them got some match minutes under their belts by playing in a charity game at the Alexandra Stadium only on Monday night!

Academy Manager Aidan Callan said: “With the run now just over a week away, we have raised nearly £10,000 which is half of our target. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

“We have been putting in the miles in preparation for the run and whilst we know it will be difficult, we are all looking forward it. The main thing is to show support for Ashton and to raise awareness for, not just our fundraising efforts, but for also the many people who have supported Ashton throughout this difficult time."

The first leg of the route, approximately 16 miles, will see the lads depart the Alexandra Stadium at 8am heading for The Bet365 stadium.

The proposed route will then take them towards Wychwood Park, followed by a tough incline at Alsager’s Bank!

The next stage sees them heading towards Newcastle-Under-Lyme, along the A34 towards Hanford and then finally reaching destination number one, The Bet365 Stadium.

After a short pit-stop the staff will then begin the relatively short leg of the run, six miles, along the Canal toward Vale Park.

Leaving the Canal at Middleport they then head up towards Hamil Road and on to the home of Port Vale FC.

Finally they will make the long journey home! This part of the run is another 13 miles!

After another short Canal run towards Bathpool, the group will head through Butt Lane, down through Linley and Alsager. They will then take in Barthomley, Crewe Green before the final stretch past the station and back to The Alexandra Stadium. 35 miles completed!

Come and support the boys in their mammoth quest. Please donate if you can by visiting JustGiving
