David Artell admits that he will not be ‘frivolous in the transfer market this summer’ just for the sake of it. The Alex boss is busy in negotiations with a number of out of contract players and their representatives about their future intentions whilst also targeting potential new additions to his squad.
Depending on how many eventually depart this summer will determine the number of incomings but Artell says that as usual he is looking for quality rather than quantity when it comes to improving his squad.
The Crewe Alexandra boss told the club’s official website: “We have made significant progress over the last two and half years and that is down to the hard work of everybody. Now we have to work even harder to establish ourselves in League One and see where that can take us.
“It is a lot easier planning for that than when you are hurtling towards the non-league, which is what we were when we took over four years ago.
“We have achieved a top half finish and our aim will be try to improve on that and push for the top six. We will give us our best shot like we did last season when we just fell short.
“We know what resources we have and we have to be efficient in the transfer market and not be frivolous for the sake of it. We want to attract good players who can help us try and get us where we want to be.
He added: “We want the right players with the right characters at this football club and if we can add the right ones to what we already have, then we have got a chance, but there will be a lot of clubs thinking that as well.”
