Adebisi: "The Big Difference In League One Is The Pace"

30 March 2021

Rio Adebisi says that you can ‘most definitely’ tell the difference in quality when it comes to the bottom two divisions in the EFL. The exciting youngster has shown that he can step up to the plate when called upon whether at right-back or in his more natural left-back position.

With Perry Ng moving on to Cardiff City during the transfer window and injuries to Billy Jones and Donervon Daniels, the door suddenly swung back open for Adebisi and his fellow Academy graduate Travis Johnson.

Adebisi was called upon to play right-back when Daniels was forced off through injury against Blackpool after half an hour and he then started against Lincoln, Doncaster and Burton Albion.

His consistent performances earned praise from manager David Artell and Adebisi is just hoping to get more chances before the end of the season.

The 20-year-old defender said: “I am happy with the way things have gone of late and it is was great to get some game time in the first-team. It was nice to know the manager and Kenny (Lunt) had that faith in me and it is only going to help me develop.

“The big difference in League One is the speed. You have less time to think and you can tell the difference to League Two. The quality is higher and you get punished more for the slight mistake but I am enjoying it and learning a lot.

“If I get another chance then I just want to help the team as much as I can and that means keeping a clean-sheet and hopefully providing an assist or goal at the other end. I feel I can score goals and had a chance against Blackpool with a header.

“Hopefully, if I can get one then it might become a part of my game going forward.”
