No Chances Taken With Daniels

3 March 2021

Boss reveals that right-back was taken off as precation in draw with Blackpool.

David Artell expects full-back, Donervon Daniels to be ‘fine’ after he withdrew the 27-year-old defender just after the half an hour mark last night.

Daniels aggravated a hamstring muscle when providing a perfect cross for Chris Porter and although he battled on for several minutes afterwards, Artell did not want to take any risks with him after only just returning from five months out.

Crewe fought back from 1-0 down to draw late on thanks to Stephen Walker’s first goal of his second loan spell. Daniels was replaced by youngster Rio Adebisi at Bloomfield Road but Artell is hopeful that the injury to the likeable defender is nothing too serious.

He explained to the club’s official website: “It was more precautionary with Donervon. He felt some tightness in his hamstring, it is his other one, so that is a relief and I expect him to be fine.

“It was a case of it, let’s get him off the pitch and don’t take any chances with it. He has been out for five months and he started his third game in a week.

“He will be assessed and we will take it from there, but I think he will be fine.”
