Lunt: "We Had Too Many Below Their Best On Saturday"

8 March 2021

Kenny Lunt says it is good to have a mid-week game against Doncaster Rovers coming up quickly because it will allow us to get Saturday’s disappointing away defeat to Lincoln City out of the system.

The club’s assistant manager says that the squad will go through the DVD of the game and learn from what he described as a ‘below par performance’ against the Imps.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s game at home to Doncaster, Lunt told the club’s official website: “It is good to have a game so soon after a defeat. It was a disappointing performance on Saturday and we will have to go through it with them and learn from it.

“We will then put it to bed and focus on Tuesday’s game.

“I thought that we had too many playing below par on Saturday. They didn’t reach the levels they usually set and they know that. It hasn’t happen for a while and the lads have been consistent.

“Every game has been different and we have had a really tough run of fixtures. There are no excuses in football but we have put a lot of effort into those games against Accrington, Sunderland and Blackpool and you have to credit Lincoln. They stopped us and hit us on the counter-attack.

He added: “We weren’t competitive enough and didn’t win those personal duels enough. The effort was there, it always is. The lads always try, that is a definite here but we needed to be more competitive off the ball.”
