Boss: "Players Responded Superbly From Saturday's Disappointing Defeat To Lincoln"

10 March 2021

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he was delighted with the way his players responded from Saturday’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at Lincoln City.

The Alex bounced back with a deserved 1-0 win over play-off placed Doncaster Rovers playing 4-3-3 again – but that is not to say Artell won’t be considering a change back to the 4-4-2 formation we have been using in recent weeks.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “You can be forgiven for having a bad game. We weren’t at the races at Lincoln and we though the boys looked a bit jaded. Good players, good teams don’t have two bad games on the trot.

“We needed to bounce back and we did. It was a proper performance, a thoroughly professional performance and we got the win we deserved.

“We went for 4-3-3 again because we had already beaten them playing that way at their place earlier in the season. We thought we would be more threatening that way and ask them some questions. We felt that we had already proven that that formation had worked against them.

He added: “Now we are up against Burton this weekend and we drew against them playing 4-3-3 and it took an overhead kick from Owen Dale in injury time to get us that point, so that will be food for thought this week.

“It may be that we revert back to what we have been doing for the visit of Burton.”
