David Artell believes that his first summer signing, Christopher Long, could be an ‘unbelievable signing’ for the Football Club.

The former Everton youngster has signed a two-year deal with the Railwaymen and Artell says he is pleased that the 26-year-old has chosen us above other interested clubs.

Long joins us after a successful two years in the SPL with Motherwell and Artell is sure that the former Burnley, Blackpool and Fleetwood man has the ability to improve and add even more goals to his game with us.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Firstly, Chris is a Scouser and there is a real toughness, pride and steel ingrained in them. That is complimentary about him and the City. It runs through them and I like that trait.

“So, you have a certain calibre of person before you even meet and from his background and what he has achieved and what clubs he has been at, we have got a real good player on our hands.

“One coach I spoke to about him told me that we had a Premier League player on our hands. Now we have got to get them out of him. That is the challenge but we are excited to have him.

“It is up to us to utilise that potential and improve him further. I am sure he will become a better player over his time here and hopefully beyond his current contract.

“He will be judged on his goals and his assists, like all forward players are but I am sure we can get more out of him and make him even more of a threat. I am sure Mika (Mandron) would say that has happened to him since coming here and even at 33 when he joined us, Chris Porter would say he has improved as a player over his four years.

He added: “It is easy to get over excited about things but I truly believe that he could be an unbelievable signing for this football club and we are delighted to have got him.”
