Adebisi: "I Don't Mind Which Side I Play On"

14 June 2021

Youngster Rio Adebisi says he doesn’t mind which side he plays on as long as he can get more first-team games under his belt. The Academy graduate, 20, made 17 appearances last season and his consistent displays saw him rewarded with the club’s prestigious Break -Through Player of the Year award.

Adebisi played predominately at right-back with Harry Pickering occupying the left-back position but with the captain moving to Blackburn Rovers, the two full-backs places are now very much up for grabs.

Adebisi told the club’s official website: “I really don’t mind which side the manager wants me to play. I just want to play as many games as I can this season.

“I have played more on the right and I’ve enjoyed it there but I came through as a left-back. Like I’ve side I can play both sides and playing on the right allowed me to cut in on my left and it is only slightly different.

“I know as a full-back I have to contribute more going forward, so that means more crosses, assists and getting shots away. I know I am capable of chipping in with a few goals and that was one of the disappointments of last season is that I didn’t manage to get my first goal.

He added: “That is something I need to improve on. I am going to work as hard as I can in pre-season and be ready to go.”
