But boss targets more goals from all over
David Artell says that new signing Christopher Long will help the team score more goals in League One this coming season. The Alex boss moved quickly to secure the services of the former Everton trainee and he has stressed the importance of more players contributing in the goals for column.
Artell has highlighted the need for more goals throughout the team if we are to build on our half way finish last season on our return to the third tier.
Artell told the club’s official website: “One of the big areas we feel we can improve on is scoring goals.
“We were third or fourth for key passes and around the same for expected goals and chances created but we didn’t score enough goals.
“That isn’t just about the forward players. We need more from them but we also need the midfielders chipping in more and the full-backs and centre-halves adding a few as well.
“We cannot go out and get that 25 plus goals centre forward, so we need two getting 15 plus and the wingers and midfielders getting 8-10. If you can get to those levels then that gives you a greater chance of having a successful season.
“We can score more goals throughout the team then that usually equates to more points over the season.
He added: “That is what we hope we will get from Chris. He is 26 and has had a successful couple of seasons in the Premier League up in Scotland. We don’t usually get players of that age as they are more desirable because of their experience and ability, so we are delighted to have secured him."
