David Artell and his staff work incredibly hard on trying to find the right players for the club. The Alex boss devised a summer transfer strategy following the conclusion of the January window and he spent the tail end of last season going out to watch potential new signings.
The Alex boss says that there are ‘irons in the fire’ and he rejects the notion that the club just go out and ‘see what we can get’.
Artell told the club’s official website: “We are making progress and there are irons in the fire. We are working hard on it and we have been in the training ground as a staff working on things. We have met some players and agents and all we can do is work as hard as we are.
“I don’t buy into the ‘see who we can get’ label that we sometimes get. If people believe that then come and spend the day with me. We are working hard on it every day and I spend most of the day on the phone to someone.
“We want those players who can improve us. We missed out on a play-off place by eight points in the end and the players have to believe we can make it. We dropped too many points for my liking and that has to change and if it can, then we have a chance.
“That has to be the mindset and if it is not then it is my job to change it.
“We want to players to get us there and everyone has to pull in the same direction to make sure we give ourselves the best possible chance.
He added: “There is still a long to go in the summer window and let’s see. It would be nice to get one or two over the line in the next few weeks and once we get the priority positions done we will look at other positions.”
