Artell: "We Can Offer Players Added Extra Value When It Comes To Their Development"

2 June 2021

David Artell admits that he is ‘always up front’ with potential new signings as the club do not have the resources to waste time in the transfer market.

The Alex boss is already working hard on bringing in potential new recruits to bolster his squad after releasing senior pros Daniel Powell, Olly Lancashire and Eddie Nolan this summer. Midfielder, Ryan Wintle and defender Omar Beckles are also expected to depart after not signing the new deals on offer.

Artell, who has spoken of bringing in as a many as ten players this summer said: “I am always up front with potential new players. I think we have to be.

“There is no point us talking to him or his agent and going so far into it and then us being miles away when it comes to the money. We have our budget and what we think that particular player is worth and there is no point us being any other way with it.

“I try to be as open and honest with what we can offer them. If they are motivated purely by money and someone offers them more then 9/10 we miss out but if they care more about money, and want to improve and perhaps progress in their career then they listen to what we can offer them.

“I really think that we give value in different ways. To some that appeals. To others it won’t but we know that if they choose to come here they have the potential to develop and go on.

The boss added: “We pride ourselves on making them better players and they get the opportunity to do that at Crewe because they will be coached by real football people.”
