Boss pleased with youngster's start to pre-season.
Tyreece Onyeka opened the scoring at Nantwich Town yesterday with a well-taken finish and boss David Artell praised the youngsters’ 45 minutes in that first half. Onyeka has been a regular for Alex Morris’ Under-23 side and Artell and his staff are now looking for more assists and goals from the young winger.
It was a good start for pre-season for Onyeka and Crewe following our comfortable 4-1 win at the Weaver Stadium.
Artell told the club’s official website: “Tyreece was good. He was more threatening in that 45 minutes than he was over the last three months of last season, so that was really, really pleasing.
“I know it was 45 minutes at Nantwich in pre-season but it was a good start from him and he has to keep that going. It is up to all of us to get more out of him as well.
“Regan (Griffiths) scored a cracker of a goal and Joe (Robbins) got himself a goal from full-back. It was also good to see Josh (Lundstram) in the penalty area to score late on. We think it ca be a big season for him. It could have been a big season for him last season but with the fracture in his ankle, he couldn’t do that but this year we are hoping he will make that real breakthrough.”
