Rio: "I Know It Is Up To Me To Stake My Claim For That Number 3 Spot"

20 July 2021

Full-back Rio Adebisi believes that the pre-season has had the decided effect so far by bringing the squad closer and having the new signings integrate into the set-up.

The former Academy graduate, who deservedly won the club’s Breakthrough Player award last season is hoping he can cement his place at left-back, after making quite an impression on the other side of the pitch last season!

Now that Harry Pickering has moved on to Championship side Blackburn Rovers, Adebisi is eyeing up the chance to make more appearances on the left hand side this coming season.

The 20-year-old told crewealex.net: “I think the pre-season is going really well. All the lads are coming together and I think it has helped the new lads, coming in at the start of the pre-season. They have settled in really well and are getting to know us and the way we like to play.

“They have had the chance to learn the new systems and get to know the lads. It is just great to be back and playing games again, especially with the fans allowed back in as well.

“I’m really enjoying it and having the chance to play against Premier League and Championship players and show what we can do.

“It was a test to play Wolves and now we have two more great games to look forward to with Stoke and Nottingham Forest.

“Hopefully, I can get into the team and stay there by playing well. I will be doing my extra work and look to improve. I want to get through pre-season injury free and hopefully I will be able to get more games this season and take that number 3 space.

He added: “Hopefully, I can continue to take my opportunities and show what I can do. It is open now that Pixie (Harry Pickering) has moved on and it is up to me to stake my claim for the shirt.”
