Artell: "Fans Are Going To Make A Massive Difference This Season"

27 July 2021

David Artell says he cannot wait for the season to kick off at Mornflake Stadium with supporters making it a real competitive atmosphere again. Crewe host newly promoted Cheltenham Town on 7th August and Artell appreciates the difference those fans will make to the season.

Artell described playing games without any fans as ‘completely soulless’ and he cannot wait to have that supporter backing here again.

The boss told us: “It will be terrific to have the fans back. That is what you want and as a manager and player you want to be a part of that.

“They bring that emotion and passion and that is what you need. You want to hear that roar when a goal is scored and have them in your corner.

“Football needs those atmospheres and we cannot wait to have them back, especially when the competitive games start again. It has made a difference to have them there in pre-season. You could see that at the Stoke game with 3,500 inside the ground and the tempo it created.

He added: “It makes a massive difference. The players thrive off it. Some of them need that noise and emotion to get the very best out of their performances and it took a bit of getting used to when they weren’t there in the stadiums.”
