Kenny Lunt has told the club’s official website that the club will have to remain ‘careful’ with Billy Jones due to his lack of match sharpness. The vastly experienced defender, 33, has only completed one 90 minutes for Rotherham United this season before doing so on his second debut for Crewe against AFC Wimbledon.
Jones was rested for Tuesday’s defeat at Gillingham but the former Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion defender has trained this week and is hoping to be declared fit for selection for the visit of Ipswich this weekend.
Lunt told the club’s official website: “Billy has not played much football in the past year or two so we have to be careful with him. It is a lot to expect him to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, at the moment.
“We will manage him the best we can and he is an experienced player and knows his body better than anyone.
“Travis played on Tuesday and although we never want to lose a game, you learn a lot. You learn a lot if you win, lose or draw, probably even more so when you lose.
He added: “With time, you learn to combine better with the winger, you get more confident and get forward more. Travis and Rio are developing that at first-team level."
