"Travis Has Been Exceptional For Us"

12 January 2021

Pez back from suspension but Travis has been an able deputy.

Crewe Alexandra will welcome back club captain, Perry Ng, from his six-game suspension for our trip to Plymouth Argyle at the weekend. Ng has missed six matches following a confrontation at the end of our FA Cup tie at Cheltenham back in late November, and it has been a longer sentence following the postponement of matches following Christmas.

The likes of Luke Offord and Travis Johnson have deputised at right-back and Harry Pickering has taken over as captain in his absence.

David Artell says it is great news to have Ng available for selection again and has heaped praise on young Johnson after he has stepped up when needed.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Travis (Johnson) has been exceptional. Although he is still finding his feet at first team level, I cannot fault him. He has come a long way in a short period of time and I don’t mean over these last couple of months. He has come on over the last two years.

“From where he was as a first team professional to where he is now is great credit to him. At 18, I would say he was behind in his development but he has rapidly caught up. He isn’t the finished article by a long way and there is still a lot more to come from him.

“He has been a real bonus for us, a terrific positive in the run we have had.

The boss added: “Pez has been in exile for what seems forever, so it will be good to get him back involved now.”
