Lunt: "We Played Well Against Ipswich But It Counts For Nothing"

29 January 2021

Assistant manager, Kenny Lunt, says it is nice to receive plaudits for performances but it counts for zero when you end up getting no points. Lunt was questioned about Crewe Alexandra’s impressive performance at Portman Road back at the end of October.

The Alex had enough chances to have won the game against Ipswich but found Tomas Holy in inspirational form in goal. Ipswich won the game 1-0 thanks to Oli Hawkins’ header just after the hour mark.

Lunt says that the performance was excellent but having nothing to show for it was the vital factor from our meeting earlier in the season.

Lunt told crewealex.net: “We need to bounce back and we have spoken to the lads this week because it has been a while since we haven’t performed in the last two games.

“The players know they haven’t hit the levels they have shown and they are striving to improve.

“Hopefully, we can get a result and the performance against Ipswich this weekend.

“We know we played well at Ipswich but we lost the game. It wasn’t down to bad finishing but more to do with their goalkeeper being man-of-the-match. He made a number of good saves and they scored from a cross going into our box.

“We will have to try and stop crosses going into the box and be more clinical in front of goal.

He added: “The challenge is to bounce back and hopefully we can get the performance and result together.”
