David Artell has never met the Rochdale manager, Brian Barry-Murphy, in person but the Crewe Alexandra boss has revealed that he probably speaks to him more than most other managers.
Crewe travel to the Crown Oil Arena for our re-arranged fixture this weekend and Artell is looking forward to catching up with a young manager, who he rates very highly.
Ahead of our Saturday fixture, Artell told the club’s official website: “I speak to Brian more than most other managers. Although I have not actually met him, I really like him and he is a terrific guy. I played against him though and he has a top player as well
“I ring him for advice and vice versa and he is always accessible for a chat. He is an ambitious, young manager and he is in charge of a terrific football club in Rochdale. They have been established in this league for a while now and that is a tremendous achievement that sometimes gets overlooked.
“In that regard they are similar to us, that we are seen as unfashionable and no-one wants to write anything positive about us but we go under the radar and get on with it. Rochdale and their manager are like that and good luck to them. I have a lot of time for their manager and their football club.
“Brian wants his side to play the right way and it might be one of those rare occasions where the opposition have more possession than us!
Dave added: “It will be a tough game. Rochdale are a good side and if we are not at our best and perform well then it could be a long afternoon.”
