Artell Reveals Contract Extension Talks With Two

6 January 2021

Boss continues to plan for the future after promising start to life back in League One.

David Artell has revealed to the club’s official website that he has begun tentative contract talks with striker Mikael Mandron and defender Omar Beckles. The Crewe Alexandra boss wants the summer signings to extend their stay at the club and is prepared to offer them new and improved deals after settling into his first team extremely quickly.

Mandron leads the club’s goalscoring charts with 8 goals and Beckles has been one of the club’s most consistent performers since signing from Shrewsbury Town.

When asked about any potential contract extensions, Artell told crewealex.net: “I have started talking to both of them. Hopefully, we get to see some good news at the end of the road.

“These things do take time and even more so with the climate as it is. These things are not done and dusted in 3 days, unless it is someone like Luke Offord. He signed his very quickly.

“These types of things do take time and it is not so easy at the moment because you can’t invite someone in for a coffee and a chat. Communication with agents and advisors have to be conducted over zoom or over the phone and it can prolong things. It is all done remotely at the moment and it is a bit different.

“We have started the process and hopefully we get a decision in our favour later on but it is still early days with that.”
