Midfielder Antony Evans Signs on loan from German side SC Paderborn 07.
Crewe Alexandra have completed their third January signing of a busy period after midfielder, Antony Evans, signed on loan from German side SC Paderborn 07 this evening.
The attack-minded midfielder, 22, has signed on loan until the end of the season and joins David Artell’s growing squad that has been boosted by the recent captures of our former players, Billy Jones and Stephen Walker on similar loan deals.
The Kirby-born Evans came through the Academy ranks at Everton before turning professional with the Premier League side in October 2015. He never made a senior appearance for his boyhood club but did make eight appearances in the Football League Trophy, scoring his first goal for the young Toffees against Burton Albion in October 2019. He also captained David Unsworth’s Under-23 side and became something of a set-piece expert.
In his search for first-team football, Evans enjoyed successful loan spells in the EFL with Morecambe and Blackpool. He scored two goals from his 15 appearances at Morecambe and made a further 12 first team appearances for Blackpool during the 2018/19 season.
The former England U-19 youth International joined SC Paderborn 07 in January 2020 on a two-and-half year deal, but he couldn’t help the club escape relegation from the Bundesliga.
His chances have been limited since football resumed following the outbreak of coronavirus and he has now returned to the English game aiming to make his mark in the EFL.
Everyone at Crewe would like to welcome Antony to the Alexandra Stadium and wish him every success during his time with us.
