Travis Will Learn From Own Goal Mistake

22 February 2021

David Artell says that his young right-back, Travis Johnson, showed the necessary resilience to overcome his own goal set-back at Swindon on Saturday.

Johnson directed his backward header past his own goalkeeper Dave Richards, to level things up at the County Ground early on, but he regained his composure to earn praise from his manager.

Following the disappointing 2-1 defeat at Swindon, the Alex boss said: “Travis was fine other than the poor decision he made for their goal. There is no point trying to sugar coat it and I won’t defend that - but that stays on the pitch and he will learn from it.

“I am not going to throw him under the bus. He made a mistake and he knows. He didn’t need telling but other than that he was virtually mistake free.

“He was fine and I just wish some of the other players had been as mistake free as he was because we would have scored some goals and probably won the game like we should have.”
