Boss: "A Bit Of A Point To Prove Against Sunderland"

26 February 2021

David Artell has told the club’s official website that his Crewe side have something to prove against Sunderland after producing one of our worst performances of the season at the Stadium of Light back in October. Sunderland won 1-0 on the night but had a number of opportunities to add to that tally.

Crewe will be aiming to build on the mid-week victory over Accrington and keep the pressure on those ahead of them in the league table. Crewe are currently seven points behind Sunderland who are 5th but Lee Johnson’s side do have a game in hand.

Ahead of our intriguing clash against the Black Cats, the Alex boss told us: “We didn’t perform at Sunderland to the levels we have done.

“It was one of our worst performances of the season but they were also very good on the night.

“We have to show that we are better than we showed that night. That is the challenge. They are a big club, an historic club who have recently been taken over by a new billionaire owner. They will have incredible resources available to them but that is the same for us every week almost in this league.

“Most clubs in League One have more money than us and it doesn’t change anything when they cross that white line on Saturday. It is how about we perform and how we can expose those things we feel we are better at than them.”
