Knight's Goal Worthy Of Winning Any Game Of Football

2 December 2021

On-loan Manchester City youngster broke the deadlock last night with a goal of the season contender

Ben Knight’s wonderful goal on 33 minutes last night set Crewe Alexandra on their way to a deserved 2-0 win over Doncaster in the Football League Trophy and boss David Artell says that more performances like that from the on-loan youngster from Manchester City could see him play a key role in helping us evade relegation.

Knight is on the way back to full match fitness after a period out with an ankle injury but the talented and hard working 19-year-old is returning to form just at the right time. With the busy festive period approaching, the forward is expected to get more opportunities to shine.

His first goal for the club resulted in a1-0 away win at Shrewsbury in the same cup competition and his memorable strike last night will certainly do his chances of more game time no harm.

Manager David Artell said of the City youngster: “Ben produced the goods and his goal was worthy of winning any game. It was a cracker of a goal and he has that in his locker. He was more of a threat and worked hard for the team.

“He scored one and made one, so he cannot do much more than that. He knows he has a challenge to get into the team because the forwards have done well lately and scored goals themselves.

“Ben is a good player, we all know that. He is exceptional in tight areas and has a lot of quality and he stands out more when the team are performing better and passing the ball better. He likes to get on the ball and make things happen and I thought he was really good at that.

“When he performs like that, he knows he will get more opportunities here because of the qualities he has.”
