Ramsay Returns From Injury And Now Needs Game Time

13 December 2021

Kayne Ramsay made his long-awaited return to first action when replacing youngster Zac Williams with just over 10 minutes remaining in our 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

Ramsay, who recently got game time under his belt for the club’s Under-23s against Sheffield United has not featured at first team level since injuring his ankle against Sunderland back in mid-October.

The on-loan Southampton defender is now hoping to remain injury free and make a telling contribution during the second part of his loan agreement.

The 21-year-old has made 16 appearances for the Alex in all competitions this season and can play as a right wing-back or right sided centre-half if needed.

David Artell said after the 2-0 defeat by the Owls: “Kayne is back with us and now he needs minutes under his belt. He managed to get some for the U-23s at Sheffield United and he has made his comeback here for the final 10 or so.

“He needs more game time, so we will look at the possibly of him getting more minutes for the Under-23s (at Wigan). He has missed a couple of months, so it is important he gets that match sharpness back.

“He is an athletic player, so I’m sure he will be up to speed in no time.”
