Travis: "As A Player You Have To Be Ready For Any Scenario"

17 December 2021

Crewe Alexandra defender Travis Johnson says that with infection cases rises in the country, as a footballer he has to be ready for any scenario. Johnson, who came on in the right-wing back role against Sheffield Wednesday last week, says that the team can change at a moments’ notice.

That has certainly occurred in forward positions in recent weeks with illness and injury resulting in manager David Artell having to alter his personnel and shape at the last minute for our last two games.

Travis told the club’s official website: “There are no warning signs that you will be in the team. We find out the team when we find it out and you have to be ready. There are no excuses.

“With everything that is happening there is more of a chance of that happening so you have to prepare as if you are playing or will be needed.

“Maybe that is something I’ve learnt as I’ve got older. There were times when I was younger when I may have got caught out and not been as fit as I should have been.

“Now I feel as good as I have always felt and I am ready if needed. I don’t mind playing right-back or wing-back. I like the wing-back role as it is a bit different to what I am used to and there isn’t someone playing in front of you if you like and you have more of a licence to get forward.”
