Boss Reveals One Case Of Covid inside The Club

14 December 2021

One case inside the club and another self-isolating after close contact as Club up their measures in battle against Covid virus.

David Artell has told the club’s official website that one of his players is off with Covid-19 and one has had to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who was positive.

Crewe Alexandra also have two players off with illness but this is not Covid related and they are fully expected to return to training by the end of the week ahead of the trip to Gillingham.

The club have stepped up measures in-and-around the club in accordance with government and EFL guidelines and we will be travelling to Gillingham in two coaches this weekend to keep socially distant on the journey.

Artell told the club’s official website: “We are doing everything we can to minimise the chances of us being caught out by the virus. We will be going back to distancing ourselves in the dressing rooms and we will take the players down to Gillingham on two coaches this weekend.  It is not in the recommendations at the moment but that is what we will do.

“We will continue to test. I know that is not the case at every club but we will do that and get a grip on it as soon as anyone is positive or isn’t feeling the best. We have one case inside the club. We think he may have got it when visiting family in a big city, but you cannot never be sure.

“We also have one self-isolating after he came into contact with someone who was positive. He is fine but has to isolate for 10 days.

“We don’t want to go back to a couple of years ago. We certainly don’t want that death rate increasing to the levels of the first wave and we will do everything we can to protect our players and staff as much as possible.”
