"Some Weeks We Were World Beaters & The Next We Were Duffers"

Boss strives for more consistency to improve on mid-way finish last time out.

Ahead of the big kick-off this weekend, David Artell says his main objective is to see his Crewe Alexandra side become more consistent.

The Alex boss believes that finding real consistency from match-to-match and even between halves will make a massive difference to results. Artell said that last season ‘we could be world beaters one week and duffers next’, so he is striving for more consistency over the course of the season.

Crewe host newly promoted Cheltenham Town on Saturday and Artell is hoping that his side can hit the ground running with three points.

Artell told crewealex.net: “The aim will be to improve on last season. We were consistently inconsistent last season and that is something we have spoken about and we are looking to put right.

“One week we would concede stupid goals and then the next we would keep a clean-sheet. One game we wouldn’t score and the next we would score two or three. We need that consistency across performances and even during the games. Some games we would be unplayable in the first half and found it hard to do that again in the second half.

“We were up and down in games at times and we didn’t bring our A game often enough. We need to have those really good performances more often. Because we weren’t consistent enough last season, that is why we finished bang in the middle of the table.

“One week we were world beaters and arguably one of the best footballing sides in the division and next we could be duffers. That is where we need to improve and producing our best games more often will be key.”
