Gaffer on Kirk's switch to Charlton Athletic.
David Artell says that winger Charlie Kirk has joined Charlton Athletic with the blessing of the club. Kirk has signed a four year deal with the Addicks and could now face his former club on 28th August at the Valley.
Artell says that the London club have been interested in the young forward since the January transfer window and that he is sure to be an asset to the League One club with their aspirations of a Championship return this season.
Artell told the club’s official website: “Charlie goes with my blessing and that of the club because he has been a terrific servant of this Football Club and he is a great fella. I have always had a lot of time for Charlie and I will continue to do so.
“I often have opposition managers in my office after games and they know he is talented but say that ‘he must be a problem’ but he truly isn’t. He is a nice lad and was always available (for selection). He trained every day and trained hard. Maybe his body language let him down on the pitch at times or whatever but he is a good pro and a very good player.
“He has had a few tough days of late due to personal reasons but he has been great for this club and I know everyone here will wish him well.
“We have nurtured him, developed him and he helped us get back to League One. He has now decided to go to pastures new, we have got a transfer fee for him, as it should be, and that’s his choice.
He added: “I have nothing but good things to say about Charlie and what he achieved for this club and like I say we wish him well.”
