Artell: "Focus Has Quickly Turned To Charlton"

25 August 2021

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that his team quickly have to switch their attention to a trip to Charlton Athletic this weekend after claiming some deserved plaudits for their performance at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup.

Crewe were beaten 3-0 late on by a strong Leeds United side but Artell was delighted with the work ethic and organisation needed to frustrate a Premier League side until the deadlock was finally broken at a corner by England International midfielder, Kalvin Phillips.

Artell says it is now important to dust ourselves and go again in League One.

Ahead of our trip to The Valley, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “After the Leeds game, we quickly turned the attention to Saturday. It is all about their recovery now and us being prepared. They were disappointed and tired after what happened late on against Leeds and they have to eat plenty and get the shakes down them because we have another tough game at the weekend.

“Since Cheltenham, we have been up and down the country and out of six games now we have had two at home and now we have Charlton and Shrewsbury twice coming up.

“It has been difficult to get the coaching into them as we would have liked because of the relentless schedule but it is important that they rest up and get their legs back because it will be another test against a good Charlton side.

“We know we have good players and it is up to me and the other coaches to get that real belief into them. We will try and play the right way and as long as they try to do that and run around, like they did at Elland Road then we cannot ask for any more from them.

“Yes, we haven’t quite got going this season in the league, so hopefully that performance at Leeds for 77 minutes at least will kick start our season.”
