Boss: "We Have To Become A Lot More Consistent In Games"

24 August 2021

Boss says new-look team has only played well in patches this season

David Artell says that his Crewe Alexandra side can ill-afford not be consistent throughout the 90 minutes against Leeds United this evening.

The Railwaymen travel to Elland Road for the second round of the Carabao Cup aiming to cause a major upset against Premier League opposition but Artell has warned his players that we cannot afford to only show flashes of our potential.

According to the manager, Crewe have only played in spells in all our games this season and Artell says we have to become more consistent over 90 minutes.

Ahead of our EFL Cup tie this evening, Artell told crewealex.net: “We are going there to try and win the game and get through. It’s not a night out and although the finances are most welcome, it isn’t about that. It is about playing well and trying to get through to the next round.

“We have not been consistent enough in our games. We have played in halves or had a go for the last 30 minutes and probably deserved to get something out of the Oxford and Accrington games but we didn’t.

The boss added: “We have to become more consistent in games. We have only shown flashes of what we are capable of in the games and that has to improve. If it doesn’t against Leeds United then it will be a tough night for us.”
