Alex set to face former winger at the Valley this weekend
Our former Academy graduate, Charlie Kirk, is set to face his former club just weeks after completing his move to Charlton Athletic. Kirk joined the Addicks on a four-year-deal for an undisclosed fee and David Artell says he is looking forward to meeting up with the 23-year-old at the Valley this weekend.
Kirk marked his Charlton Athletic debut against MK Dons when coming on as a substitute but he started the club’s last game at home to Wigan Athletic. He played 89 minutes before being replaced by Josh Davison.
Ahead of our trip to London, Artell said: “It will be great to see Charlie again. We have kept in touch and I texted him on Monday. That was nothing to do with football I must say and I am sure there are a lot of lads who are looking forward to seeing him again.
“I was informed that Charlie went to the Leeds game on Tuesday to watch his old team-mates and that just shows the environment we try and create. I heard there were a number of our former players at the game and it shows that this club can create a special bond between people.
“Crewe does create a unity and a bond and these lads are mates and that is special because footballers do tend to move around a lot and that sometimes doesn’t happen at other clubs.”
