Covid Issues Will Continue To Disrupt Plans At All Clubs

6 August 2021

Boss says squad is clear of any issues but things can change in an instant due to virus variant.

David Artell believes that the continued challenges caused by Covid and the need to self-isolate will mean that more of his playing squad will get an opportunity to play at some point this season.

The Alex boss says that Covid has not affected his squad today but that can all change within 24 hours if a player or staff member was to show symptoms or be asked to self-isolate due to being in contact with someone with the virus.

The Crewe boss told the club’s official website: “I am sure Covid will continue to affect all clubs at some point. It hasn’t affected us today but that can all change inside 24 hours if someone gets it or has been in close contact with someone who has it.

“You have to live with it and get on with things. It can change in an instant and I’m sure we won’t be the only ones affected by it this season. All clubs will experience some disruption at some point.

“We had some disruption in pre-season and it will continue to happen all over the country.

“If I was a player in the squad, I would be thinking I will make sure I’m ready for when the gaffer needs me.

He added: “If we have players out with Covid, or if they have to self-isolate that might open the door for someone else, so if they are ready to step in then they have a great chance.”
