Artell: "Our Fans Missed Some Unbelievable Performances Last Season And We Have To Do It Again"

4 August 2021

Crewe Alexandra manger, David Artell, says it will be great to have supporters back inside the Mornflake Stadium this weekend and moving forward because he felt that our fan base missed out on some ‘unbelievable performances’ last season.

The Alex boss believes that fans were starved of seeing some great football from his side and he wants us to show our ‘good side’ on a more consistent basis this season.

Ahead of our seasonal opener against Cheltenham Town this weekend, the Alex boss told us: “One of the worst things about the pandemic, in a sporting sense, is that our supporters missed out on seeing some unbelievable performances from us last season.

“In my opinion we were the best footballing side in League One and I will argue with anyone over that fact. We didn’t do it enough times to get into the top six and people say Hull were because they won the league and I get that, but for actual football, I thought we were the best in League One. That is my opinion.

“When we were good, we were very good and on some days we weren’t as good and let ourselves down. As a consequence of that we missed out on a play-off place and with that is a tinge of disappointment.

He added: “We played some great stuff at times and we have to do that on a more consistent basis. If we can do that and score goals and concede less then we have a great chance haven’t we.”
