Former forward still making right impressions in training
Nicky Maynard continues to keep himself fit by training with us and David Artell has told the club’s official website that he is still in conversation with our former centre-forward about a possible deal.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after not renewing a contract with Mansfield Town in the summer. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Newport County and helped the South Wales club reach the League Two Play-Off Final.
Maynard has been training with his former club throughout the summer and is eager to move closer to home to play his football.
The former Bristol City, Cardiff City and West Ham striker scored 35 goals in 67 games for Crewe over two and half seasons before moving to Ashton Gate in 2008.
Artell told the club’s official website: “Nicky is still with us and training every day. I have spoken to him and those conservations are on-going.
“The window closing doesn’t apply to him as such because he is a free agent. Maybe with the window closing next week, he becomes more valuable I don’t know because it will only be those players without a club that will be able to sign for a club.
“We all know who Nicky Maynard is and what is about. He is a goalscorer and we’ll have to see what happens on that one.”
