Artell:"We Are Looking At Two Or Three More Before The Window Closes"

20 August 2021

Alex boss admits that the turnover of players has been high for us this summer but needs must.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell expects to be busy in the last remaining days of the transfer window. Artell is after ‘at least another two’ to bolster his squad numbers and improve his options but he admits that he won’t bring them in if they do not fulfil the requirements.

Crewe have seven signed players this summer, albeit one of those, Tommie Hoban, surprisingly retired from the game on the eve of the new season.

Artell admits that the turnover of players has been higher than usual for the club but needs must with the likes of Harry Pickering, Charlie Kirk, Ryan Wintle moving on to pastures new this summer.

Ahead of the weekend home clash with Accrington, the boss said: “We need another couple at least and we are all working hard to make that happen between now and the end of the window.

“If we can find the right ones then we will let everyone know. If we cannot find the right ones then we won’t be signing anyone. We want to sign players that will see us improve.

“It has probably been the toughest window and I say that because the turnover of players has been higher than usual. To sign seven, albeit one of those was Tommie (Hoban), is high for us and we still want a few more.

“It is certainly been more than normal but needs must. What we have to do is bring in the ones we feel will improve us and we are doing everything we can to try and find them.”
